Announcements
Thanks for a great fall season! First spring game is April 18, 2009
Please help keep the fields clean so we do not lose field privledges. Dogs are not permitted at any field. Last game at Butler move goals off the fields to school.

Attention Referees

AYSO requires every team to have a trained and certified referee. Referees who have not previously been certified may attend a Safe Haven Certification course. Come back soon for information on referee training, or contact the Regional Referee Trainer.

Primary Responsibilities

Enforce the AYSO Philosophies:

  • Everyone Plays
  • Positive Coaching
  • Good Sportsmanship
Be Familiar with the AYSO Referees’ Code of Conduct! (Please read it.)
Know the Loacl Rules

Other Responsibilities

A referee enforces the rules of the game—of course! But our refs are also responsible to see that the rules of our league are carried out. At the right, you will find a link that will take you to the soccer rules. Here is a link to the five AYSO philosophies (the ones noted above deal with conduct on the field, the other two are done off the field).

Know Rules of the Age Division
Our younger players can’t follow all the rules. For the smallest ones, it’s a big accomplishment to know what end of the field is their goal. We adjust the rules accordingly. Refs who work in more than one division (many if not all of you) should know the differences and how to apply them.

Referee Duties—Before, During and After the Game
Before the game
q Arrive 15 minutes before game time

q Check field for any debris or holes (ask parents to help clear and fill)

q Line up players from each team to check for shin-guards (can not play without), rubber cleats or sneakers, no steel spikes, and no jewelry.

q Jerseys shall be tucked in (best way to monitor holding during play) and worn over any sweatshirts

q Confirm roster cards and designate parent or assistant referee to monitor opposing teams player rotation (no. of quarters played as well as position)

q Briefly meet w/ coaches at centerfield to confirm rules, playing time, no. of players on field, etc.

q Call captains to centerfield to flip coin, winner may select kick-off or side of field

q The game must finish by the designated time (15 minutes prior to next game) If late start, shorten each period as required.

During Game
q Check roster cards at end of each quarter.

q If improper rotation, call coach to centerfield to correct. No player shall play a third quarter until everyone has played two. And no player to play fourth period until everyone has played three. Also, coach must rotate players through defense, mid-field, and offense.

q If unsportsmanlike coaching from sidelines by coaches or parents, at next break in play call coach to centerfield to correct. You may relieve coach of his position for the remainder of the game or remove player if parent is not cooperative.

Post Game
q Players and coaches shall line up at centerfield to shake hands

q Collect roster cards and turn in to Referee Coordinator (Eric Gresla) or Division Manager

q Report any problems to Referee Coordinator (Eric Gresla)

q Retrieve flags from Assistant Referees and place at centerfield
